A NYC Summer Must: Governors Island

I finally made it to Governors Island this weekend and I’m in LOVE!!!

It’s so easy to get to, so relaxing and an affordable day trip with the family! Here’s what you need to know so you can start planning your trip:

Ferries leave every half hour from downtown Manhattan (there are also ferries that leave from Brooklyn). They are only $2 roundtrip (kids under 12 ride free!) and ferries leaving at 10, 11 and 11:30  are free for all!

You can bring your bikes, or rent bikes on the island.

You can have a picnic or purchase food at the Food Court (delicious food carts and artisanal foods!)

They have so many activities for children! Check out this awesome treehouse:

The island has a fort that served as a prison, Castle Williams.

We had a picnic overlooking Manhattan.

There is a really cool art installation on Governors Island now. Check out these pics taken by my munchkin!
