Elf on the Shelf makes birthday specials too! #ElfBirthday

elfbirthday 2

You’ve probably heard of Elf on the Shelf… I first heard of it on social media during the holidays… the Elf visits and can see everything your child does. The Elf reports to Santa! But, did you know that the Elf can come back for your child’s birthday? Santa lets his elf helpers come visit special boys and girls on their birthdays. Pretty cool, huh?

This is just one of the cool things I learned about Elf on the Shelf Birthday tradition during the #ElfBirthday event at Dylan’s Candy Bar in NYC. The event was hosted by my friend Lisa Quinones-Fontanez, writer and blogger at Atypical Familia and brought a bunch of cool multicultural bloggers to learn more about Elf on the Shelf and #Elfbirthday.

The Elf has a special outfit for his birthday appearance and there are other very cool #ElfBirthday items. I especially love this birthday countdown. One one side, it’s a countdown, and on the other, it’s a game!

I really enjoyed learning about Elf on the Shelf’s story. Elf on the Shelf was a tradition that Christa Pitts, one of the co-founders of the company, had enjoyed as a child… she says when she got to college, she realized, not everyone had an elf visit during Christmas time!

Her sister and her mother (both educators) worked on writing the Elf on the Shelf book and after unsuccessfully pitching it to publishers, they went ahead and published 5,000 copies (minimum order.)   They invited all their friends and family to learn about Elf on the Shelf and a store picked up the book! The rest is history… today Elf on the Shelf not only has a  the traditional Xmas book and Elf, it also has the birthday accessories, and clothing.

The best news of all for this multicultural mama? Elf on the Shelf Christmas edition comes in Spanish and French! Cannot wait to check those out! (Stay tuned!)

Tell me, do you have an Elf at home? What is your Elf’s name? Will your Elf be coming to visit your little one for his/her birthday?
