Ecuador: A Few Days in La Ruta de Spondylus

Earlier this month, my family and I visited Ecuador and we took a few days to visit La Ruta de Spondylus (formerly la Ruta del Sol). We had a wonderful time, and I managed to cross a few things off my Ecuador bucket list, the 12 places I wanted to visit before I died.

If you love beautiful natural beaches, then make sure to check out Ecuador. I know people usually think of Quito or the Galapagos when they think about Ecuador, but there are plenty of beautiful beaches and coastal towns in Ecuador.

Our first stop was  for lunch in Libertador Bolivar in Santa Elena. It is a small town by the beach, and we ordered their specialty: fresh fried fish stuffed with shrimp in sauce with a side of patacones and white rice, of course.

We then headed to Montañita, a beach town popular with international tourists and surfers. We stayed at Hostal UmmaMugga. We enjoyed a walk on the beach and planned our whale watching expedition the next day. (Pics and recap to come!)

The next morning, after a delicious breakfast of patacones y queso, we headed to Playa Rosada, a beautiful pristine beach with beautiful sand and warm water.

We had an amazing time! Stay tuned for my next post on our whale watching adventure!

Have you been to la Ruta del Sol (aka la Ruta de Spondylus)? What’s your favorite thing to do? Where do you eat?

Pin this for later!
