Books to Prepare For Kindergarten

Starting Kindergarten can be an overwhelming and scary experience for kids. Many times it is the first experience kids have in a school setting. For other kids (like mine) it will be the first time in a big school, with hundreds of children.

I’m not going to lie, starting kindergarten is not only a big step for kids, it’s also a big deal for parents. Parents get nervous about their children going to a big new school as well!

The school where my son is going to kindergarten has done some things that have reassured us. All schools should do the following in order to help kids and parents prepare for a new year in a new school:

1. Take a tour of the school with your child. Show your child where the classroom is, the gym, the cafeteria, the bathrooms. Point out the things that will be of interest (of course, the playground or where recess is).

2. During the summer meet kids that will be in the same class. Organize a picnic, or a day at the park. This will help the kids start the year off knowing some friendly faces.

3. Read some books to prepare your children for kindergarten! Here are some great ones you can find in the library, bookstore or Amazon.
