5 Reasons You Should Have a Slow Cooker! (Recipes too!)

When I was in grad school I lamented on how hard it was for me to cook dinner on weekdays during the school year and I’m not going to lie— weekends I was too pooped to cook- thanks to that and the abundance of delicious food in my neighborhood, just a click or phone call away, we were guilty of relying far too much on takeout. After my detox we really were trying to eat healthier so we have been cooking more at home and I’m always looking for ways to make it easier.

Enter the slow cooker. My slow cooker is a triple threat— slow cooker, that is also a rice cooker AND a steamer!

I have the older version of this Krups Slow cooker (this one is also an oatmeal cooker… Highly recommend it!)

Everyone should have a slow cooker! Here are 5 reasons it should be your next purchase:

First, No more hovering over the stove to watch the chicken to make sure it doesn’t burn!!

Here are the ways I’ve been using the slow cooker:

  • Chicken: I marinate the chicken the night before, and before going to bed I turn it on, in the AM I remove chicken, wash the pot and make some rice to go with it. I pack my lunch and leave leftovers for dinner.  Another way to do it is to prep the meat the day before and turn the slow cooker on in the AM, so that it is ready when you get home from work.
  • Soups: I cut veggies and add broth and spices. Cook overnight (or during the day) and blend with immersion blender. Easy and delicious. (Check out some of my fast and easy soup recipes here.)
  • Make a whole meal: Put chicken in with cut up potatoes, or sweet potatoes, garlic, onions. When you get home, take the chicken out, and puree the potatoes for mashed potatoes!

Second, the chicken is so tender it falls off the bone!!

Third, In the summer, or hot weather, it beats using an oven! Because who needs to turn on the oven when it’s 85 degrees out?!

Fourth, it is also great because it’s MUCH easier to clean than an oven!

Fifth, I can’t even tell you the awesomeness of coming home to having dinner ready (or 75 percent ready!)

I’m so inspired about all that my slow cooker can do that I just HAD to create a Pinterest board! Check it out: My Slow Cooker Recipes Pinterest Board
