As I’m decorating my daughter’s room, I’m of course planning a nice stock of books. Every baby’s room needs books! I’m building my daughter’s library with some of our bilingual favorites, and and some new additions: I’m getting her some great feminist baby books and I found these five that you will love!
Because I want my little girl to know that she can be an astronaut, a basketball player, or a detective… and so many other careers have often been called “boys'” jobs. For older children, it also comes with an activity book
She Persisted by Chelsea Clinton
Hot off the press! Chelsea Clinton uses that famous phrase first used to speak about Elizabeth Warren to talk about 13 women who have changed the world. (Also, have you noticed the diversity on the cover? YAAAS!)
A is for Activist by Innosanto Nagara
When my daughter was in the womb, I went out to DC for the WeWon’tWait Summit, where activists from all over the country gathered to discuss the pressing issues of our time. During that trip, I said my baby was an activist from the womb, and this is the perfect book to teach her what it’s all about!
The book uses the letters of the alphabet to highlight important topics or people in activism. For example, x is for Malcolm X, i for immigrants.
Feminist Baby by Loryn Brantz
This Little Trailblazer by Joan Holub and Daniel Roode
This board book is the perfect introduction to amazing trailblazing women like Rosa Parks and Sonia Sotomayor. (And another amazing diverse cover!)
