Albertine: the premiere French bookstore in NYC #FrenchFridays
Albertine is the premiere French bookstore in NYC. In it you will find everything you could possibly want when it comes to French books and literature!
Albertine was created in 2014 in order to reinforce the French government’s commitment to French-American intellectual exchange. The space is located on Museum Mile, on 5th Avenue (972 Fifth Avenue, at 79th Street) at the headquarters of the Cultural Services of the French Embassy.
Albertine has over 14,000 books, everything from classics (Descartes, Proust) to contemporary authors like Marc Levy (my favorite French author! read more about that here). Albertine also has a great children’s section where you can purchase books for your little ones!
In case you’re wondering (I was!) Albertine was named after a in one of Marcel Proust’s novels, In Search of Lost Time. The space is a beautiful two floor space. (Look at this phenomenal room!)
In addition to books, Albertine also hosts literary and cultural discussions. For example, I have attended conversations with the great Francois Grosjean (expert in bilingualism) and Marc Levy (again, my favorite French author). I also have attended children’s events.
Earlier this year, Albertine expanded its offerings to include ebooks (available through their site, Albertine.com) 85 French publishers, including some of France’s most respected publishing houses such as Gallimard, Flammarion, Minuit and Actes Sud, are represented among the ebook collection, which will continue to grow in the coming months.
If you’re need a French bookstore in NYC, Albertine is the place to be!
