working dads reflect series

The Working Dads Reflect Series continues with this interview about a dad who says there is always room for more work/life balance.

This interviewee asked to remain anonymous.

What is what has most surprised you about parenthood?

That it was going to be the most difficult job I’ve ever had.

What were your hours like before being a father? Have they changed?

I can’t recall work life before being a father.

What are your hours like now?

Work hours are up at 6:15, bed by 11:30pm.

Did you take parental leave? If no, why not? If yes, how long  and what was your experience like? Was it paid leave?

I took a week off after the kids were born.

Do you feel that you spend enough time as a family?   No.

Who does more of the cooking and cleaning at home? Percentage?

I help out when I can but the overwhelming majority is done by my wife

If you could change one thing in the way you do things now, what would it be? Why?

I’d be more present when I’m home.

What do you think is the biggest issue parents face today?

I have no idea what others are facing.  Perhaps the tech revolution and adapting to that.

Do you find yourself thinking you wish your life had more balance?
If anyone says they have achieved balance, they are not being truthful.  There is always room to
balance more.

Do you agree? Do you think there’s room to do more?
