When I lived in Europe, I noticed that kids had chocolate almost every day. My cousin who lives in Italy explained that kids had a glass of chocolate milk when they got home from school because it reenergized them after being in school all day. In France, the 4pm snack, le goûter, is often something chocolatey, many times a piece of baguette with dark chocolate and butter. (I know it sounds weird but it is surprisingly really delish!)
Now that I have an active little boy who has boundless energy, I've done my research and understand why Europeans give their kids chocolate to restore their muscles and reenergize the kids after a long day at school (the school day in France lasts until 4:30 p.m.). I love the idea that milk can give him that replenishing energy he needs because he loves milk! and of course, he LOVES chocolate! So chocolate milk is the perfect drink to restore his body after a long day in school and after kicking some balls around in our backyard.
At home, we don't buy juice, so my son's options are water and milk, and Nesquik's chocolate milk has great nutritional value:
- the milk is low-fat,
- a great source of protein (8 grams per serving!)
- and calcium (40 % daily recommended value!)
- has electrolytes, potassium and sodium to help restore tired muscles.
- NO HFCS!! (high fructose corn syrup!)
- No artificial colors!
