Giving Tuesday is Coming: Why Giving Back is Important

After we have stuffed our faces with turkey on Thanksgiving, after many of us brave the crowds on Black Friday and support our local small businesses on Saturday, after we’ve exhausted our online coupons on Cyber Monday… There’s a day reserved for us to give back, to give to others, to support worthy causes and remember that there are people in our communities and in the world who are not as fortunate as we are. That day is Giving Tuesday.

This year I am a social media ambassador for the Giving Tuesday movement and while I’m not representing one specific organization, my goal as an ambassador is just to tell you to get involved: Any way you can, give. You can give your money, your time or your voice… every little thing makes a difference.

You make think that only the huge donations matter, but that’s not true, imagine if 100,000 people could only afford to give $5 — well those people have just made a half a million dollar donation to a cause. That is powerful.

You’ve heard the starfish story?  Just like that, anyone can make a difference, even if we can just help one person; we have made a difference.

Giving back is not only about giving money… it can be about volunteering your time to help those that are not as fortunate, through a variety of ways: helping in a soup kitchen, donating your unwanted coats, tutoring underserved children, donating books to your local library, helping clean up a local park… the possibilities are endless!

Now the fun part, tell me, how do you give back?

Share below!  I will be donating $1 for every comment on this blog post (up to $100)  from today until Dec 2nd 11:59 pm EST

  1. i love that you do this; I think it’s a wonderful way to involve what you love with who you areas a person off the computer. Just wanted to compliment you on that.. Every year, my partner and I host Game Day with Santa, where neighborhood children are invited to take free photos with Santa and participate in some awesome fun with a donation of their choice. It’s been three magnificent years and I don’t think I would want the fun to stop. Keep up the good work! ;))

    1. Thanks Rebecca! For me it is really important to give back, any way I can. Perhaps this post will inspire someone to give, and that is all it takes… maybe that person will inspire more, and so on and so on! It’s the ripple effect, right? Thank you for stopping by! =)

  2. What a beautiful initiative for #givingtuesday Just this past Friday, little one and I had a truly amazing and beautiful experience. A trip to the playground turned into a lesson on empathy, kindness, and gratitude. We fed a homeless couple!

  3. I love this! I totally agree that giving back doesn’t always involve money, however I will be doing something similar to this via social media tomorrow to help raise up to $100 to the Children’s Health Fund. Happy to help such a great cause!

  4. Love that you are creating awareness about Giving Tuesday, it is so important to focus on helping others instead of only buying things. Thanks for doing this, Diana!

  5. This year I’ve chosen to donate to Mi Escuelita Preschool in Dallas, TX. They serve “working poor” families living at or below the poverty line. Mi Escuelita provides them with quality preschool programs, helping their children to learn English so that they can transition directly into English-speaking kindergarten classrooms without the struggle of a language barrier. They also prepare these children for kindergarten by teaching basic skills such as pre-literacy,pre-math, and social skills that help them excel in school.
