Note: As a Shot@Life Champion, I am participating in #Blogust this month! 36,000 vaccines have been unlocked.. with your help we can donate up to 60,000! Blogust’s theme is “Happy and Healthy Firsts.”
A baby’s first international trip is always a big occasion… parents wonder how the baby will hold up, how the baby will react to the plane ride, we wonder how WE will hold up… we pray that our babies sleep through most of the flight, and that they don’t puke or cry because their ears hurt, or because they are teething (as was Enzo’s case when we traveled.)
The first time I took my son on a plane it was to go Ecuador, where my parents are from. I was very excited because everyone would meet my son and it was also the first time my husband was going to Ecuador as well. When you are part of a multicultural family, traveling is a big part of your life. Traveling is a way to keep culture and language alive.
Visiting El Malecón in Guayaquil, Ecuador
It was a great trip. Thankfully Enzo slept during the airplane ride and when we arrived at the airport, there were many people waiting there to welcome us. One of the best things about the trip was having Enzo meet some of his great aunts, and other people that had seen me grow up… they told me how much Enzo reminded them of me when I was little.
This trip was also the first time Enzo went to the beach. He loved playing in the sand and getting his feet wet.
I remember when I lived in Ecuador, it was very important to have vaccinations and there were many vaccinations campaigns for children. I am very happy I can help make a difference in children’s lives by writing this post.
I know my son is lucky because he has access to life-saving vaccines that many children do not have access to. I am lucky that I don’t have to worry about my son becoming sick from vaccine-preventable diseases. That is why I believe in Shot@Life and I hope you will join me in helping donate 60,000 vaccines to children via Blogust. All you have to do is share this post or like it (via social media links below.)
Because all kids deserve a Shot @ playing in the sand and bonding with family, please join me in helping make #Blogust a success.
During Shot@Life’s Blogust 2014—a month-long blog relay—some of North America’s most beloved online writers, photo and video bloggers and Shot@Life Champions will come together and share stories about Happy and Healthy Firsts. Every time you comment on this post and other Blogust contributions, or share them via social media on this website, Shot@Life and the United Nations Foundation pages, Walgreens will donate one vaccine (up to 60,000). Blogust is one part an overall commitment of Walgreens donating up to $1 million through its “Get a Shot. Give a Shot .®” campaign. The campaign will help provide millions of vaccines for children in need around the world.
