Thoughts on my Son’s 3rd Birthday.
It’s midnight… and my son is officially three. I am not even sure how that happened…where did the time go?
He’s a little man. He expresses himself in full sentences. In three languages. He loves cars, fire trucks, and cooking. He is sweet and tells me I look “linda” when I he sees I’m dressed up. Some days, he’s a big boy who says “chao mama” and takes his teacher’s hand and walks into classroom– some days he clings on to me for dear life. “No te vayas mama.” Don’t leave mama… Ouch… Those mornings are hard. My only consolation is that as soon as I’m out of sight, he does stop crying. (I know because I call the daycare as I’m walking to catch the train to find out — yeah I’m that kind of mom!)
He’s grown up so much. He has opinions, he makes jokes, he has a vivid imagination and a wicked memory. He knows what he wants, and what he doesn’t. He is so grown up, and it happened so fast. Yet sometimes he will say, “no soy niño grande, soy pequeño.” “I’m not a big boy, I’m little.” He’s not a big boy, but then again, he is. He can go in the “big” slide at the park. He knows how to spell his name, he knows who Dr. Seuss is. He loves to paint, and loves stuffed animals. He can be so sweet but he has a temper… He is growing up and he’s his own little person… yet he is still my baby.
Where did the time go? On days when he is driving me up the wall I think they can’t go fast enough and I want him to grow up… but today I don’t… not so fast! Already three, it was the blink of an eye! What will I feel like when he goes to Kindergarten, when he tries out for the team, when he starts driving, when he goes to college? I can’t even imagine!!
Enzo is my little man and I have the honor of being his mother, now if he would only stop growing up so fast!
I get what they say, that parenting is the most rewarding and challenging thing you could ever do. How powerful and frightening it is to know that I am responsible for this little man. For my little man…
Happy birthday to my little man!
